Man assaulted then burnt to death in Delmore informal settlement

A 34-year-old man was assaulted and burnt to death in Delmore informal settlement on Friday night, November 3.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela, the deceased, Jan Skhozana, was inside his shack with a friend when the attackers entered.

“The assailants tied the pair with a rope and dragged them to the nearby bushes where they sprayed them with paraffin.

“Fearing for his life, the friend quickly untied the rope that was bound around his body and fled. But his friend was overpowered by the attackers, who assaulted him with big stones and set him ablaze,” said Phathela.

The friend reportedly went into hiding until the following day, when he reported the incident to the police.

Upon investigating, the SAPS found Skhozana’s naked, partially burnt body lying in the bushes.

Detectives investigating Skhozana’s death are now asking members of the public to help them in solving the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Reiger Park SAPS on 011 916 7000 or anonymously send information to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or SMS line 32211.

Police have also made a direct appeal to the suspects, one of whom is believed to be a resident of the area who was recently detained for possession of unlicensed firearm, to hand themselves in.

“We are working around the clock to bring the suspects to book and we are in the process of following up some leads and are appealing for witnesses to come forward,” said Phathela. -@FanieFLK
