Mozambican man shot dead in tuck shop, witnesses sought

A 23-year-old Mozambican, identified as Pedro Lorenzo Lichive, was shot and killed inside his tuck shop in Delmore Informal Settlement after 8pm on October 22.

According to Sgt Mashudu Phathela of Reiger Park SAPS, the deceased suffered two gunshot wounds to the chest and paramedics declared him dead on the scene.

The deceased’s girlfriend said they were inside his shop when an unknown male entered to buy cigarettes.

While the deceased was busy helping him, the man took out a firearm and demanded money.

The deceased gave him an undisclosed amount of money; the suspect also took four cellphones and cigarettes.

The suspect then shot the deceased and fled the scene.

Phathela said a case of business robbery and murder was being investigated.

The SAPS appeals to anyone who might have information about the incident to contact Det-WO Ben Olifant on 011 916 7000.

In another incident, an unknown man in his thirties was found dead in the middle of the road at the corner of Elsburg Road and Archie Jonas Street, Reiger Park, at around 2.45am on October 23.

According to Phathela, it is suspected that the deceased might have been struck by a vehicle, as he was found with injuries all over his body.

The body was taken to Germiston Government Mortuary. A case of reckless and negligent driving and hit-and-run is being investigated.
