Watch: Boksburg’s retirement villages and church hosts successful fete

Locals braved the cold on October 28 to support several annual fund-raising fetes in Boksburg.

The fetes were held at the Methodist Homes Ridgeview Village in Impala Park, the Sunward Park Gemeenskapkerk and Cosmos Old Age Home in Van Dyk Park.

Stalls sold a variety of items at each fete, including handmade crafts, clothing, flowers, jewellery, Christmas gifts, food and much more.

At Ridgeview Village, attendees were treated to a live performance by Armand Joubert from The Voice SA and 10-year-old Xaylin Kruger.

Line dancers also entertained with their hip dance moves.

Hester Penny, organiser of the event, said: “Despite the cold weather the fete was enjoyed by all. We rely solely on donations and had encouraged stalls to participate at R100 per table. Unfortunately, because of the cold, some of the stalls did not participate.”

Nora Wheeler, who attended the fete, said she has been coming to the fete for the past five years.

“My mother is a resident of the village, so I come here every year to support this worthy cause. Since I’ve started attending the fete it has never disappointed me; I always have fun,” she said.

Penny said they are still in the process of calculating the money raised on Saturday but all proceeds will go towards what is needed in the village.

Meanwhile, over 100 people supported the fete at the Sunward Park Gemeenskapkerk.

While adults browsed the stalls and listening to cool sounds from a live band, children enjoyed themselves on the carousel and fun train.

At the Cosmos Old Age Home, the elderly residents and guests enjoyed live performances while browsing through a variety of stalls.
