In the early hours on Wednesday, October 26, the Dawn Park SAPS patrollers spotted a suspicious green VW Polo with three occupants in Van Dyk Park.
According to communications officer Nkemeleng Mabula, the vehicle sped off as the patrollers approached it to make inquiries.
Police were called and a chase ensued.
“Along Barry Marais and Mimosa roads, the driver of the Polo lost control and the vehicle overturned. One male died on the scene and the other two were apprehended before they could flee the scene,” Mabula said.
Mabula said the green Polo was reported hijacked in Boksburg North in 2016.
Both suspects, aged 32 and 36, were taken to hospital under police guard.
“A firearm was recovered and will be taken in for ballistic testing to determine whether or not it was used in the commission of any crime,” Mabula said.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
