Man fatally gunned down in an Eveleigh pub

A man died after being shot allegedly by an off-duty police officer at the Soul Shack pub and restaurant on Trichardts Road, Eveleigh, on Friday night, October 27.

The police spokesperson was not immediately available to comment on the matter, but according to unconfirmed information obtained from a source at the scene,  the man was gunned down at about 7pm allegedly by an off- duty police officer who had been at the establishment.

The source, who did not want to be identified, said the deceased got involved in a heated argument with the cop and the manager of the business.

The man by all accounts was then safely escorted out of the premises, upon which the deceased went to his car which was in the parking area and took his gun.

“Carrying the gun, he then walked back into the building where he threatened to shoot the manager, but the officer immediately took the manager into a toilet and locked the door, before he took out his gun and shot the man carrying the gun,” said the source.

Police and ambulances arrived at the scene after the man was shot. He died on the scene.

According to eye witnesses, a number of patrons were in the pub when the shooting occurred. Panic ensued when  the shooting occurred.

The Advertiser was not allowed to enter the premises, but a senior police officer at the scene told the journalist on the scene that someone had been shot dead, adding that members of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) were at the scene carrying out an investigation into the shooting.

The property remained cordoned off while crime scene investigators examine the area until the early hours of Saturday, October 28.
