Clr Simon Lapping directs traffic in Jet Park

DA Clr Simon Lapping for Ward 17 directed the traffic at the intersection Griffiths- and Kelly roads in Jet Park on the morning of October 13.

After a fire broke out at a substation in Jet Park on Monday afternoon (October 9), a number of suburbs in Boksburg was left with no power.

By Wednesday the power to all areas has been restored except for Jet Park. Power in Jet Park is expected to be restored by October 15.

With the traffic lights out of order in this area, it has caused much frustration and chaos among motorist travelling through Jet Park.

Karen Vose, who travels through the area daily, contacted the EMPD emergency number (011 458 0911) to enquire about pointsmen for the area.

On Tuesday morning there were EMPD pointsmen on duty at intersection Jet Park- and Yaldwyn roads (Main Street).

“Luckily, the traffic lights at the aforementioned intersection worked from Tuesday afternoon onward, however, the rest of Yaldwin Road traffic lights remained out of order,” said Vose.

However, her subsequent calls to this number were not as pleasant.

“They referred me to 086 054 3000, who had no idea how to assist me and assured me it was not one of their functions,” said Vose.

She contacted Lapping who assisted.

He required pointsmen “urgently” at the intersections Griffiths- and Pretoria roads and Yaldwyn- and Rondebult roads, but to no avail.

This morning, he took initiative and assisted with the traffic flow himself.

“EMPD again did not bother coming. In Johannesburg, a pointsman can be sent through Outsurance, but Ekurhuleni doesn’t have that system. Why?” asked Lapping.

The Advertiser contacted the EMPD but received no response by the time of deadline.
