Three nabbed in Reiger Park drug busts

Police arrested three alleged drug dealers during separate busts in Reiger Park on the night of October 3.

According to the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, members of the Tactical Response Team in Ekurhuleni stormed three houses during an intelligence-driven crime operation.

“In the first house on Ihashi Street in Ramaphosa, officers found a 59-year-old man in possession of 900 pokes of dagga.

“They then went to another house on Martin Du Preez Street in Reiger Park and found a 32-year-old man in possession of 80 halved mandrax tablets.

“In the third house, officers arrested a 22-year-old who was found in possession of 45 packets of CAT,” said Phathela.

The exact value of the drugs is still to be established but it is estimated at a significant amount.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in Boksburg Magistrate court on October 5.

The acting station commander, Capt Zakhele Dladla, applauded the members for the discovery he described as a major breakthrough in the fight against the drug trade in the township.

“Drug dealing is a major problem in our community. By removing such a huge amount of drugs so many lives are saved,” he said.

The drug bust came a few days after Reiger Park police arrested a Jerusalem informal settlement man after they found him in possession of 18.062kg of dagga last month.

Police officers were patrolling Delmore informal settlement when they spotted a man carrying a bucket. They approached him and discovered that his bucket was full of dagga.

The suspect led the police to his house where they found another bucket full of dagga and 103 dagga slopes.

Also on August 28, police officers, acting on information received from the concerned community, arrested an alleged dagga dealer. They found him in possession of 1.982kg of dagga in his shack in Slovo informal settlement. -@FanieFLK
