Unrest in Angelo leads to cancellation of Rotary Family Health Days

The annual Rotary Family Health Days, scheduled to take place from October 3 to 5, at Angelo informal settlement, have been cancelled.

According to Heidi Tucker, Rotary International, assistant governor (District 9400), the health days were cancelled due to the unrest in Angelo.

“Our decision follows numerous meetings with officials from the Department of Health, NGOs and the Rotary clubs of Boksburg Lake and Benoni Aurora over the past two weeks,” said Tucker.

In Boksburg, this event was supposed to be held at Angelo informal settlement, which has been a site of unrest recently over the metro’s plans to relocate the residents.

“This is a decision to protect all parties involved. The health days are still continuing at all the other sites around the country.”
