Villa Liza farmer facing murder charge

A 57-year-old farmer from Villa Liza will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on October 31, facing a charge of murder.

In November, last year, a cattle herder was with his employer while leading their cattle home when the farmer allegedly shot the 53-year-old cattle owner during an altercation about his livestock trespassing on the farmer’s plot.

According to Const Nkemeleng Mabula, from the Dawn Park police, after the cattle owner was shot, the farmer rushed the man to the Sunward Park Hospital, where he died.

The cattle herder was not harmed.

“The accused was arrested the same day and charged with murder. The firearm was also recovered. The suspect appeared for the first time in court on November 28, last year, and on November 29, he was released on bail.

The man appeared in court again in February and, most recently, on August 22, and the case was again postponed, to October 31, for further investigation.
