Rotarians gather for District Governor’s dinner

Rotary Clubs of Benoni, Benoni Aurora, Benoni Van Ryn, Boksburg and Boksburg Lake hosted District Governor Jankees Sligcher and his wife, District Governor Ann Judy Sligcher, during their annual visit to Ekurhuleni.

 

The couple lives in Johannesburg, and visit the five Rotary clubs annually to discusses Rotary matters at separate executive meetings.

After these meetings are concluded, the clubs meet for the District Governor (DG) dinner.

This year, the dinner was hosted by the Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake in Boksburg, on September 6.

District Governor Jankees Sligcher encourages Rotarians to never stop dreaming.

During the dinner, long term exchange student Alyssa Mendoza, from Alaska, shared her exciting experience of being in South Africa. Benoni Aurora hosted her stay.

District Governor Sligcher spoke about the importance of dreaming, saying that if people don’t dream they are taking one step backwards.

“It is vital to never stop dreaming. Keep dreaming and make a difference in your area by changing someone’s life with your dream.

“People usually ask me what they should do and I tell them I don’t know because I believe everyone has the power to make good decisions for themselves and people around them,” he said.

On each table at the dinner, the Rotary Anns clubs had imaginatively parcelled beautiful packs of books, as a gift to the District Governor for distribution to needy readers.

Sligcher presented each club president with a ‘Making a Difference’ banner.
