Boksburg North resident fed up with stinking mess

A Boksburg North house owner is in a stinky situation because the water drainage system from two properties in 6th Street lies right behind his property in 5th Street.

“The rule is that drainage for water must be granted at my property,” said the homeowner, Theunis Snyman.

“However, it is evident that the properties in 6th Street have no proper toilet facilities, causing sewage-related waste to gradually flow through the supposed drain.”

This has allegedly been the cause of some two years of ongoing sewerage blockages, stench and severe health risks at Snyman’s property.

“The Ekurhuleni metro has been extremely helpful over this period. They have assisted in unblocking the sewerage system on an ongoing basis,” said Snyman.

He said the health inspectors are aware of the situation and have records and photos of the ‘problem properties’ in 6th Street.

Snyman said they did explain that this is a legal matter with the owner of the properties in question, who lives in the Western Cape.

“The legal action will, however, take its course over a long period of time but that doesn’t resolve the health issue at hand,” he said.

“It is bad not to be able to enter the room where the water drainage system has become a semi-sewerage ‘flow through’.

“Flies have become a pest. The matter has become more than unbearable.”

The Advertiser contacted the Ekurhuleni metro for a response, but is still awaiting a response.
