Proactive foot patrols target CBD crime hotspots

The recent spike in crime in the Boksburg CBD has led to the Boksburg police taking a decision to intensify patrols by deploying members of the CPF community patrollers in town.

As of August 31, the army of reflective uniform-clad patrollers, led by the Boksburg SAPS’ W O Lucky Raboshaba, will be seen patrolling the streets of the CBD – as part of the police’s proactive crime prevention and control measures.

According to Raboshaba, the primary objective of this initiative is to increase visibility and protect businesses and people against the gang of thugs, who have been terrorising businesses and people in the CBD.

“We have in the last few months seen an increase in the number of robberies, theft from motor vehicles taking place in the CBD. It is normally worse on month-ends. For that reason we have decided to ask our CPF patrollers to assist,” said Raboshaba.

The team of patrollers is also being used to prevent robbery at the known smash and grab hotspots, including the traffic light at the intersection of Rondebult and Pretoria roads, in Comet.

The team on foot beat consists of police officers and has backup from the police sector vans. -@FanieFLK
