Dawn Park top cops honoured at prestigious SAPS awards

Two members from the Dawn Park SAPS were recognised and honoured for their exceptional service in the fight against crime at the annual SAPS’ Provincial Excellence Awards ceremony in Erasmia, Pretoria, on August 25.

Capt Bongani Masimula and Const Mongi Mhlawuli made themselves and their colleagues proud for scooping the awards at the prestigious SAPS event.

Respectively, Capt Bongani Masimula scooped the first runner-up “Detective Group of the Year” award and Const Mongi Mhlawuli scooped the “Silver Cross for Bravery” award and a badge for performing an exceptional deed of bravery in very dangerous circumstances.

Capt Masimula, who has won five other awards before as he has been in the SAPS since 1983, said: “I feel very happy for winning the award as it shows that my hard work has been recognised yet again. I’m also expecting to get other awards in the coming future.”

Holding the certificates which they received at the annual SAPS’ Provincial Excellence Awards ceremony are Const Mongi Mhlawuli and Capt Bongani Masimula from the Dawn Park SAPS.

Const Mhlawuli said he considers himself a brave police officer whose duty is to protect and serve the community at all times.

“I feel even more motivated to continue working hard in giving the best service to the community,” he said.

The annual SAPS’ Provincial Excellence Awards are aimed at recognising and honouring the police officials, reservists, public service employees and members of the Community Police Forums who excelled and have rendered an exceptional service to the community at each level during the 2016/2017.

The Ekurhuleni SAPS Central Cluster will hold its own Prestige Awards event, to celebrate the excellent performances of members of the different police stations within the cluster, on October 13.
