El Ridge Corner robbery: SAPS recover stolen goods the same night

The Boksburg North SAPS recovered the goods which were stolen during a business robbery at an electronic shop at around 8pm at the El Ridge Corner, on Sunday night, August 27.

“Before the incident occurred, the complainant – a security guard – was approached by two men who asked him if the Standard Bank ATM was open,” said Boksburg north SAPS communication officer, capt Juanita Coetzer.

“The guard replied that the machine was out of order. Another security guard joined the conversation and the next moment, one suspect produced a firearm and ordered both security guards to lie on the ground.

“They searched the complainant and his colleague and took the complainant’s cellphone.

“While they were being searched, the complainant heard the sound of glass crashing.

“The suspects took the security guards into the store and the complainant noticed the glass door was broken.”

Coetzer said six male suspects were involved. The suspects fled the scene with electronics and cellphones in a white VW Polo hatchback.

“Security officers responded to the alarm and arrived on scene. They opened fire on the suspects’ vehicle and chased them for about 300m.

“The suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran away. The vehicle was confiscated and the stolen goods were recovered.”

The case is under investigation.
