Spiritual ‘guru’ Sid Webster dies

After a six-week battle in hospital, Sid Webster (68), from Libradene died at The Life Glynnwood Hospital, in Benoni during the early hours of August 18.

“He was very ill, but he fought bravely until the end,” said his wife, Felicity.

“The fight was tough.”

After fracturing his leg during a fall on July 10, Webster was admitted to hospital and had a pin inserted into his leg on July 14.

During his stay in hospital, his health deteriorated and he underwent a triple bypass – a 13-hour operation – on July 21.

He was in ICU for four weeks.

The Advertiser was fortunate to have met and interviewed Webster in March earlier this year.

He was born in Boksburg on September 3, 1948. He attended Boksburg High School where he was head boy in 1965. Thereafter, he studied law at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Webster had the ability to find the spiritual in any natural situation. He has spent his life developing his talents and made it his business to share those special abilities with his students.

Webster, who has over the years proven to be a dynamic and captivating speaker, was passionate about enlightening others to discover their passions in life.

He specialised in holistic brain training, motivational speaking, marriage guidance, trauma counselling, goal setting and spiritual awareness.

According to Felicity, her husband loved people and touched lots of lives over the years.

He was very family orientated and looked forward to spending his 69th birthday with family.

Webster and his wife were married for 45 years. She said she was only 16 years old when they started dating.

“He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. We’ll miss him terribly; it’s not going to be the same without him,” said Felicity.

“He was an amazing, loving and loved person. It’s all still so surreal and happened so quickly.”

On behalf of the family, Felicity thanks all their friends and church members for their unconditional support during these tough weeks, especially during the last couple of days.

She also expressed her gratitude to the staff at The Life Glynnwood Hospital.

Webster leaves behind his wife, four children and five grandchildren.

• The funeral of Sid Webster will take place at The Old Apostolic Church, Libradene, on August 26.
