Bianca celebrates second runner-up spot at Mrs Glamour International pageant

Mrs Glamour Africa, Bianca Birnie, a former Boksburg resident, was named second runner-up at the Mrs Glamour International pageant held in Belgium, from June 23 to July 2.

Birnie, who was crowned Mrs Glamour Africa in December, was born and raised in Boksburg and attended Laerskool Westwood and Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen. She now lives in Springs.

There were 19 participants from various countries in the international pageant.

“It was awesome to communicate with the participants from all the different countries,” said Birnie.

“At times it was difficult, but we could understand each other!”

Lauranne Mertens, from Belgium, was the winner and Mariah Sarver, from the USA, was first runner-up.

Birnie did not get time to see much of Belgium but said the parts she did see were beautiful, especially the old buildings.

“The people there are very friendly and the language they speak is a lot like Afrikaans,” said Birnie.

Birnie is working on a project called Living Ball. These are sports balls which carry a touching message.

She distributed 250 of these balls among the less fortunate in the Northern Cape, during April.

She said the next batch of 250 balls will be distributed in Delmas.

Birnie also distributes DeskBags (DeskBags SA recycling project) to underprivileged schools.
