According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseke, the victim was accosted by the armed man as he was walking along one of the streets of the settlement at about 6am on July 29.
The crook approached the victim and, at gunpoint, demanded his personal belongings.
Looking down the barrel of a gun, the victim reportedly displayed his bravado and managed to overpower the gun-wielding attacker, disarming him.
“During the robbery, the victim immediately pounced on the attacker and took hold of the gun.
“A struggle ensued, during which the robber pulled the trigger and two shots went off, hitting the victim in the chest and right buttock. Despite his injuries, the victim overpowered the attacker and managed to take the gun.
“The suspect subsequently ran away, leaving his gun behind,” said Maseko.
“Someone called an ambulance and the victim was taken to hospital. He was still in possession of the gun, which had a filed-off serial number, and he later handed it to the police.
“Police registered a case of attempted murder and are now hunting the robber,” added Maseko.
