You can help make Strelitzia’s fete a huge success
The Strelitzia Service Centre is holding its annual fete on August 5 and is pleading for donations to help make this a bumper fundraiser.
Centre manager, Rika Crous, says the bite of the current economic climate has affected the amount of support and donations they receive.
“Donation support has dropped a lot and although we are very grateful for the loyal support we still receive from our members, the community and business sector, we are struggling and could do with help.”
While donations have dwindled, Rika is over the moon about the fact that a record number of stalls have been sold at this year’s fete (20).
“There will be a great variety of stalls, so bring the whole family and come along to browse, buy and enjoy wonderful food too,” said Rika.
The food on sale includes Strelitzia’s famous pancakes (of which, Rika said, they sell at least 1 000 on fete day), puddings, vetkoeks, curry and rice, jaffles, pap and wors, boerewors rolls, hotdogs and sparerib burgers.
The popular tombola table is bound to be a favourite again.
All proceeds from the fete go to Strelitzia.
These are donations the centre would be grateful for to make the fete a success:
- Secondhand toys (for the tombola).
- Round bread rolls.
- Cinnamon (powder).
- Viennas (two kg).
- Dessert and cake ingredients.
- Ice-cream.

Strelitzia is the only service centre of its kind for the elderly in Ekurhuleni. The centre runs clinic services, a second-hand shop, a library, various activities (line dancing, lawn bowls, gym trim, needlework, etc.), a Meals on Wheels scheme, daily meals to members and arranges a host of special functions for the aged throughout the year.
Membership is only R75 per year.
The centre’s hall can also be booked by the community for special functions (weddings, birthdays, etc.).
