Heroes rescue elderly couple from burning house

Three young men rescued an elderly couple from a raging house fire Wednesday morning, July 26, at around 8am.

The Livingstone brothers, Jared (22) and Kyle (20), and Aiden Lemmetjies, who matriculated last year, helped Erik (89) and Marge (90) Heubner from their burning house in Parkdene.

The brothers live across from the couple and Aiden is a next-door neighbour.

According to Jared and Kyle’s mother, Pam Livingstone, when her sons noticed the flames coming from the house they did not hesitate to assist.

What’s left of the house in Parkdene, in which the elderly couple are believed to have lived for 56 years.

“They forced open the security gate to the house and found the elderly couple in the kitchen, trying to extinguish the fire with a hosepipe,” said Pam.

“The boys helped them out of the house and also managed to move their vehicles before they caught fire.”

Apparently the couple had been living in the house which has now “burned to the ground” for about 56 years.

Unfortunately, Marge lost all her clothing in the fire.

Anyone willing to donate number five shoes or size eight clothing (women’s) and toiletries to the couple may contact Yolandi van Tonder on 082 854 9448.

The Advertiser is awaiting a response from the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services about the fire.
