Therapy dogs extend a paw at mall

Paws for People, a non-profit organisation that offers animal-assisted therapy and activity programmes recently hosted a successful awareness week at East Rand Mall to enlighten the public about their services.

The organisation brings together domestic animals and people in a warm, non-threatening manner, allowing them to interact positively in a professional and friendly approach.

Their services include pet and education programmes for nursery and primary schools.

They also offer pet education programmes to nursery and primary school children.

Seen here are the colouring competition winners. They are (from left) Ndalo Magudulela, Katara van Vuuren, Soham Devanandthen, Sana Devanandthen and Diane Wolmarans. With them are the Paws Golden Retrievers.

According to the East Rand unit leader, Eileen Calvert, the idea was to allow the public and children to interact with the therapy dogs.

“We also had the opportunity to speak to parents and their children about how to be safe around dogs,” Calvert said.

Shirley Thomas (right) won in the raffle competition which took place during the awareness week, with her is Eileen Calvert (Paws for People) next to one of the dogs from Paws Golden Retrivers.

The four children who were selected as winners of the colouring-in competition, which took place during the awareness week, received goodie bags.
