WATCH: Rotary Lake inducts new president, honours 11 with Paul Harris Fellowship.

The Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake welcomed its new president Martin Stokes and Anns president Linda Stokes at an induction breakfast.

It was also a sad moment as Rotarians bid good-bye to outgoing president Nicky Savvides, who was described as a humble leader.

The Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake hosted the breakfast at Little Nero’s Restaurant, on July 9.

Savvides (81) has been serving for 40 years in the Rotary and has held the position of president for two terms.

The induction ceremony was graced by fellow Rotarians who were excited to welcome their new president.

Savvides shared his emotional roller-coaster journey during the morning with the Rotarians.

According to Daniels, when she took the challenge of being the Anns president, it was a bit daunting but it has helped her to grow in a whole new direction.

“As a club we have grown in membership and have achieved quite a few goals. The Rotary Anns main focus was aiding the elderly and underprivileged children in our community,” Daniels said.

The club also inducted new Woodlands International College Interact leader, Heather Hughes, who is taking over from Stacey McKeen.

Interact is a club for young people aged 12 to 18, who want to join together to tackle the issues in their community.

The Rotary Interact Club has been involved with various community projects over the years to support the community.

Over a period of 40 years, Boksburg Lake has made donations to the Rotary Foundation to support its worldwide humanitarian and educational programs.

For such donations the club earns credit points, and with these credit points the club honoured 11 nominees for their exceptional hard work over extended periods.

Eleven Rotarians were honoured with the highest award – the Paul Harris Fellowship.

Savvides said he is proud of having recognised the 11 fellows as they have assisted him in his term and the Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake.

New president Stokes encouraged fellow Rotarians to push for membership growth and revive the spirit of doing good to others.
