The Stop Hunger Now organisation is a volunteer-based meal-packaging and results-oriented nutrition programme.
Employees of Kemach JCB rolled up their sleeves to take part in a meal-packaging challenge with the organisation, on the company’s premises.
The employees where divided into two groups and each packed for 67 minutes. The end result was 6 400 packaged meals.
These meals will feed up to 15 children five meals per week for the entire year.
The CEO of Kemach JCB, Les Lothian, said: “Our main aim was to support those less fortunate. It’s our first time hosting an event like this and what we have seen today is phenomenal, so next year we are definitely game.
“We are doing our bit as a company by doing something which will have an immediate and positive impact on the lives of the most vulnerable members of society.”
Lothian applauded the good work done by the Kemach JCB Jet Park team.
Nadine Sandrock, from Stop Hunger Now, said the packaged meals are balanced and consist of dehydrated vegetables, soya, rice and other foods.
“We thank Kemach for contributing towards the Mandela Day event and helping us to achieve our mission of eradicating hunger in South Africa,” she said.
The company is yet to finalise the beneficiaries of the meals to be handed out on Mandela Day, July 18.
