Supermarket in the Boksburg CBD robbed

A gang of at least four armed robbers stormed into a supermarket in Station Road, Boksburg CBD at about 7pm on July 2 and stole R20 000 in cash and R44 000 worth of stock.

According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the thugs, described as African males, entered the store pretending to be customers.

“Once inside the shop, one of the robbers took out a firearm and aimed it at the shop owner, assaulted his brother and demanded money,” said Maseko

They then helped themselves to the money, stock, including cigarettes, and a TV.

The gang fled on foot.

No shots were fired and apart from the brother, who suffered head injuries, no other injuries were reported.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

A case of business robbery and assault was opened.

The robbers were still at large on Tuesday afternoon.
