People who seem to be the usual culprit in house robberies include security guards, domestic workers and gardeners, as described in the SAPS investigations.
Since these robberies have been occurring the police have been pleading with community colleagues to discontinue hiring anyone who just appears in the streets.
“First do the necessary verifications to ensure you employ the correct person,” said Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer.
“In some instances, the victim doesn’t even know the name, address or cell phone of their workers.
“Please communicate with your workers on safety precautions.”
The community is also urged to be aware of hijackings taking place.
“Most hijackings happen in the driveway and at stop streets,” said Coetzer.
Coetzer advises community members to be more vigilant and aware of their surroundings, especially when approaching intersections.
