Baby injured in two-car collision

A 9-week-old child suffered injuries when the car the child and the mother were travelling in collided with another vehicle, before overturning to land on its roof.

On June 22, EMPD officers and paramedics responded to the report of a crash involving a Corsa Lite and a Mazda 3, at the intersection of Paul Smith and Trichardt Road, Boksburg North.

Emergency services and the Ekurhuleni Fire Department responded speedily and arrived on the scene to assist the injured child in the overturned Corsa Lite, before they took the child to hospital.

The other occupants of both cars were also checked by paramedics. The child’s mother reportedly suffered only minor cuts with bruises. Meanwhile, the driver of the Mazda 3 and his son had a lucky escape as they suffered no injuries and had no specific complaints.

The Corsa Lite was found on its roof a few meters from the spot where the collision occurred. It had damage to the front. The second car reportedly spun after it collided with the Corsa and landed on the roadside facing south on Trichardt’s Road. It has damage to the right-hand side panel, next to the bonnet. Pieces of debris were spread across the scene.

Emergency services and the Ekurhuleni Fire Department responded speedily and arrived on the scene to assist the injured child in the overturned Corsa Lite, before they took the child to hospital.

Although the cause of the crash was still under investigation, preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that the Corsa Lite was travelling west along Paul Smith when it collided with the Mazda, which was reportedly travelling north on Trichardt Road.

EMPD officers on the scene said no other cars were involved in the crash. -@FanieFLK
