Window of Hope joins hands with Care Bear Gauteng

Window of Hope, a safe house for abandoned babies, was recently officially opened in Dawn Park.

The Advertiser in March published an article highlighting the plans for the safe house as it was still being renovated at the time. It is now in full swing and has welcomed two toddlers and a newborn baby girl.

Window of Hope will provide abandoned infants a place of safety for at least 60 to 90 days, which will offer the mothers enough time to reclaim their babies.

Pastor Joey Nel, the founder of Window of Hope.

If the baby is not claimed within that period the infant will then be placed into a foster-care facility, followed by an adoption programme.

According to Pastor Joey Nel, Window of Hope has joined hands with Care Bear Gauteng and are now working together as they share the same vision of preserving the lives of babies.

“Care Bear Gauteng was originally in Elsburg. Zenobia Venter, who is the director of the Care Bear safe house, and I decided that we should join hands to make this mission a great success,” said Nel.

The newly renovated house which has also been made child-friendly.

On the day of the opening, friends, church members and family members celebrated and blessed the Window of Hope house to be a blessing to the children.

“We are so happy about what we have achieved so far and we thank everyone who supported us on this journey. We are battling to get financial support but we will be implementing fundraising events soon,” Nel said.

According to Nel, too many children are left for dead in dustbins, on the side of the pavements and in front of police stations.

“We at Window of Hope/Care Bear Gauteng want to reduce the statistics of dead babies by offering mothers an alternative,” Nel said. The safe house has provided a wish list: Baby formula, disposable nappies, non-perishable food, fridge or chest freezer, wooden hut to use as storage space, blankets and clothing for the babies.

If anyone would like to donate anything to this cause, they may contact Joey and Barry Nel on 072 209 8957 or 072 209 8956 respectively.
