About 40 SAPS members from Boksburg’s respective police stations received medals.
According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, this is the most important event in a police member’s career – to receive a medal for years of service.
The SAPS band led the platoon on the parade ground and welcomed the attending generals with a general salute.
Deputy provincial commissioner for Gauteng Maj-Gen Max Masha, accompanied by the cluster commander, Maj-Gen Poobalan Subbiah, was escorted through the parade to inspect the members.
Masha pinned each medal to the recipient and congratulated them personally.
“It is a great honour to have received a medal from Maj-Gen Masha,” said Coetzer.
