Freeway Park robbery; SAPS recover some of the R1-million worth of loot

The Boksburg SAPS-based members of the Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Trio recovered some of the goods, worth about R1-million, stolen from a house in Freeway Park.

The items were recovered from a residential property in Vosloorus just hours after the robbery.

This came after a gang of armed robbers held the victim at gunpoint inside the house and helped themselves to a number of valuable items and meat from the fridge on Monday, June 5.

They then loaded their loot into the victim’s Toyota Fortuner and sped off.

Boksburg SAPS Det Const Vernon Boysen and Det Sgt Calvin Mphaphuli followed up on leads that led them to the house in Vosloorus.

It is believed that the suspect noticed the approaching officers and fled his home.

The discovered goods included clothes, bags and a first-aid kit container. But the vehicle, laptop, TV set, jewellery, DVD player and firearm magazines have not yet been recovered.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects is asked to call the investigating officer, Det-Sgt Calvin Mphaphuli on 071 422 7417 or 011 841 6858.

q The two officers have also on Monday, June 5 proved that criminals can run, but cannot hide from the long arm of the law.

According to the Boksburg police, the officers managed to arrest a man accused of robbing two foreign nationals of about R25 000 in cash and a car at Tiger Brands Boksburg on Valentine’s Day.

The victims were there to buy stock when they were robbed by the suspect, who initially pretended to be a Tiger Brands employee.

The suspect was arrested at his house in Watville.
