Meet Boksburg’s head Rotarians

There are two Rotary Clubs in Boksburg and they have endeavoured to work together on numerous projects.

Rotary Club Boksburg and Rotary Club Boksburg Lake have made it their mission for many years to take care of the community.

Boksburg Lake’s Rotary Ann’s Club’s prime objective is to do good in the world, not only for the needy, but also for the talented.

Each club is led by its current annual president and their ideas are anticipated with keen enthusiasm and participated in with alacrity.

Cooperation among members, clubs, their projects and outside partners are encouraged and often awarded by and financially supported by Rotary Districts, Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

Boksburg’s two clubs fall in District 9400, which covers four southern African countries. Rotary International and its Foundation are seated in Chicago, America.

It is therefore clear that a president is an important link in the worldwide successful and highly respected Rotary organisation.

Rotary Club Boksburg president Noel Wauchope was born on Christmas Day in 1966.

In 1969 he moved to Benoni with his family, attending school in Benoni from 1973 to 1984.

Wauchope played football for the Old Bens and the Benoni Northerns as a junior and also played quite a bit of tennis.

In 1982 the golf bug really bit him and he still enjoys the game as a member of Benoni Lake Club after 35 years.

Noel has worked in his family business since 1988, selling electrical connectors and tooling. The business is now 47 years old.

He married his wife Sherryl in 2001, with the couple living in Bartlett.

Noel joined Rotary in 2013, sponsored by Dave Beattie, but always had an interest in charity work.

He found Boksburg Rotary Club to be a fun club to join and eventually he became president.

Noel, who will be serving for the second term, has a passion for helping children in Boksburg.

According to Wauchope, Boksburg needs people to contribute to community projects to help those in need.

Rotary Club Boksburg Lake president Nicky Savvides (81) has been a charter member of Rotary Club Boksburg Lake since 1977.

Savvides served his first term of office as club president in the Rotary year 1985/6 and is presently serving his second term of office in this same club.

Savvides said he finds the Rotary values very much the same as when he joined Rotary four decades ago, but the organisation has modernised in most respects.

He has dedicated, active members who have not only taught him all he needs to know about IT but who fill portfolios in his club to deal with the new requirements.
