Hammond Pole Attorneys busts record with blood drive

More than a hundred units of blood were donated during the blood drive held at Hammond Pole Attorneys on May 19.

The South African National Blood Service, in conjunction with the law firm in Boksburg, hosted a successful blood drive which saw Hammond Pole clients, staff and residents donating blood.

The law firm expressed excitement as their 100 units target was achieved considering that it’s the first time that they held a blood drive.

This was an SANBS record by being the largest Corporate Blood drive on the East Rand.

Kyle Richards from the firm said: “The Rotary Club in Benoni brought this great initiative to our attention and we decided to take it up as we have many clients and we knew they would be happy to take part.

“With the shortage of blood the SANBS is facing we wanted to assist where we can to ensure that people who need blood don’t suffer.” Salome Labuschagne, from Hammond Pole Attorneys, said the response from the public was great and they plan to hold the blood drive quarterly.

A total of 155 donors donated blood on that day.

Blood donor, Claudia Giger, said the last time she donated blood was in high school.

“As someone who is in the medical field I understand the importance of donating blood. Blood is critically needed for a wide range of medical procedures so by donating we are really saving lives,” said Giger.

Terrance Pillay from the SANBS said: “It is critical that the SANBS has a sufficient blood supply as we enter into the winter season.

“We would like to thank Hammond Pole Attorneys for setting up this community initiative that will assist us in ensuring that we have enough blood for patients in need.”
