Witfield man dies of suspected drug overdose

Police in Boksburg are investigating the unnatural death of a 32-year-old Witfield man who died at Tambo Memorial Hospital on the morning of Monday, May 8.

Allegations of a possible drug overdose have surfaced after the man was admitted at the hospital.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Cebisa Maseko, police were called by staff at the hospital, after the patient died.
The nurse in charge reportedly told the police that the man appeared to have overdosed on drugs.

“Our detectives have, however, registered an inquest docket and this is standard practice in cases such as this.

“They are continuing to probe the circumstances of the man’s passing, establishing facts which include speaking to people who had contact with him in the days leading up to his death,” said Maseko.

No further details were released, including the deceased’s name.
