Robber sentenced to eight years imprisonment

A man was sentenced on March 24 to eight years imprisonment, of which two years were suspended for five years, for robbery with aggravated circumstances.

Det-WO Willem van Aswegen from the Boksburg North SAPS investigated the case and with good investigation, testifying of witnesses and a well-presented case docket, the suspect was found guilty in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.

He was found guilty on an incident that took place on September 18, 2016.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the complainant was walking along Charl Cilliers Street, Boksburg North, when she was approached by a man who demanded her cellphone.

“He said that if she refused, he would kill her,” said Coetzer.

“The complainant refused and the suspect produced a panga. He waved it at the complainant and she lifted her hand to block the attack.

“The complainant sustained an injury to her hand. The suspect grabbed her handbag and fled the scene.”

The complainant allegedly ran into a nearby church to seek help.

A few church people gave chase and apprehended the suspect with the complainant’s handbag in his possession.

An EMPD vehicle came past and stopped to assist them. The suspect was arrested and detained at Boksburg North SAPS.
