Charlie Lagarde went to a liquor outlet to buy a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate her 18th birthday and while there bought a C$4 scratch lotto ticket, the first lottery ticket she had ever purchased. This has become such a heartwarming story for many people who play  Lotto.

Her win gave her the option to get  a lump sum of C$1-million , which includes tax, or C$1000 (R9 078) tax free every week for the rest of her life.

Her financial adviser recommended that given her age she opt for the weekly amount.
