Mayor announces new salary scale for the Ekurhuleni metro

Ekurhuleni mayor, Mzwandile Masina, has announced the historical approval by Council of the Ekurhuleni Classic Salary Scale.

According to  Gugu Ndima, spokesperson of office of the mayor, this important decision puts employees on a single salary structure, which affirms ‘equal pay for work of equal value’.

“The City comes from an era where 11 salary scales of former towns were used, which saw inequalities and workers not being remunerated in accordance to their work contribution,” said Ndima.

The mayor said this historical decision by council gives each and every worker a competitive edge in the labour market.

Yesterday he addressed thousands of employees at the Boksburg stadium.

“We must attract and retain skills in our City and this is a competitive point of departure.

“The City through the new administration is working towards a One City identity. Whilst historically the city has nine towns, it’s important that we move towards a global City Region.”

The mayor said that employees of Ekurhuleni view this is a victory for not only them but the city.

“From tomorrow the finance team led by the City Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi will work vigorously towards the seamless implementation of the approved decision.”
