Atlasvlei Park officially opened

Ekurhuleni’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Waste Management Services Ndosi Shongwe officially handed over the Atlasvlei Park to the community of Atlasville on Friday, March 31, at a ceremony in Star Street.

The cash injection of over R2 million paved the way for the installation of playground equipment, park furniture, walkways, a bird hide, upgrading of bridges to wheelchair friendly and expanses of manicured lawns.

The construction of the storm water channel, phase two, is still underway.

“We have embarked on a drive to open a series of community parks across Ekurhuleni in an effort to encourage social cohesion and create access to modern parks for the community to enjoy the family orientated amenities free of charge,” said Shongwe.

Ward councillor Alderman André du Plessis told the Advertiser that the Atlasvlei Park is phase four of the project to upgrade the storm water management of Atlasville Spruit.

He said there’s only one phase left for earthworks and thereafter the landscaping should follow.
