Metro encourages conservation as water restrictions lifts

Water restrictions have been lifted in Ekurhuleni.

This was confirmed at a council meeting in the Germiston Council Chambers on May 30.

This confirmation follows the gazette by National Department of Water and Sanitation to lift water restrictions in Gauteng, after improved water levels at the Vaal Dam.

However, the City of Ekurhuleni urges residents to continue using water sparingly.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe said: “Water restrictions have been lifted, but we urge residents and business to conserve water by always avoiding daytime irrigation between 7am and 5pm every day.

“When we water during the day, 40 per cent of water evaporates due to sunlight.”

The lifting of the water restrictions brings to an end the water restrictions punitive tariffs.
