Estate agents raise R227 000 in anti-women abuse march

Estate agents from Harcourts Full Circle and Harcourts Blue, in Germiston and Boksburg respectively, participated in the Harcourts Foundation event,“Walk a mile in their shoes”.

This education and awareness campaign centres on the issue of violence against woman in South Africa.

The event took place on March 25 at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens and over R227 000 for iDUC was raised.

The iDUC project is a multi-level initiative that focuses on job creation, community upliftment and, importantly, the provision of support to rape victims.

It is a joint venture between Santi Britz, the South African Council for Business Women (SACBW) and the Job Club.

Harcourts Blue staff members are (from left) Hilton Kriek, Simon Smith, Rochelle Veale and Mark Veale.

It is based on the touching story of Santi Britz, who, by the grace of God, used her pain from a rape trauma to touch the lives of many.

Simon Smith, owner of Harcourts Full Circle and Harcourts Blue, said violence against women is a major problem in the country.

Each agent who participated raised a minimum of R1 000.

Smith said he was immensely proud of all the men from his team who donned high heel shoes and walked a mile alongside their female colleagues.

“Today we have taken a stand and made a clear statement that violence in any form, particularly violence against women, is not acceptable and that every man should always stand up and speak out against it.”
