Adopt A Child campaign to empower youth of Windmill Park

Through the Angel of Hope support group, the Adopt A Child campaign has been established to assist young people from disadvantaged backgrounds around Windmill Park.

So far, 17 children have benefited from the campaign by receiving school uniforms.

The campaign launch took place at the Windmill Park Multipurpose Centre, on Saturday, March 18.

Maria Gaba, a counsellor at the centre, said they identified a need among learners who attend the support group not just for emotional support but also for physical help.

Counsellor Maria Gaba said there is a real need to take care of children in Windmill Park.

“We are glad that with the help of God that sponsors have come on board to help us carry out this vision. This is the start of greater things, as we hope to reach out to more children around Windmill Park who are in need,” Gaba said.

The Angel of Hope support group, which has been in existence since 2015, offers counselling for abused children, children from broken marriages and those suffering from other social ills.

Thandolwazi Ntsume receives her school uniform from counsellor Maria Gaba and Siyabangena VW crew member Joseph Mkwanazi (sponsor).

Beneficiaries of the Adopt A Child campaign are high school and primary school learners.

Gaba said being poor doesn’t mean you are dead and that there are organisations that are willing to help change lives.

“We thank our sponsors who contributed in the donations towards the school uniform and food. We extend our greatest appreciation to Zamokuhle Funeral Directors, El’bethel Youth Academy, Prince Ndlovu, Mpho Motsabi, Florence Rodrigues, Matsena and Tumi, Pearl Ramafolo and the Siyabangena VW crew,” Gaba said.

Michelle Tzembeyi,  Angel of Hope administrator, said:” We thank God for bringing us this  far. Through the establishment our organisation we did not know we could reach out to many people as we are doing now.”

Mapaseka Monaheng, counsellor at the Angel of Hope support group, expressed her excitement at the launch of the Adopt a Child campaign.

The support group gets together every Wednesday from 2.30pm to 3.30pm and on Fridays from 3pm to 3.30pm.
