To date the school has raised over R72 000, which was handed over to Cansa during the Relay 4 Life on March 10 and 11, held at the Boksburg Stadium.
Summerfields was the only government school in Boksburg to participate in such a fundraiser, and a team of 87 teachers along with parents, grandparents, children and cancer survivors took part.
As a fundraising incentive, principal Joe Bantich agreed to a Shavathon, where the teachers were allowed to dye their hair a bright colour or shave their head.
The school set certain targets for each teacher. Once their target was reached, they had to dye their hair a bright colour.
At the Cansa Relay 4 Life the school won the trophy for best team spirit the trophy for best health slogan.
They also won the trophy for overall best team and the trophy for the team that raised the most money.
