Major breakthrough in Boksburg house robberies

The Reiger Park police arrested four foreign national men on Saturday morning, who are believed to be behind the spate of house robberies currently plaguing Boksburg.

Acting on information, police officers managed to arrest the four men, aged 27, 31, 34 and 37, in Ramaphosa, according to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela.

In the suspects’ shack, police officers also allegedly found a TV set stolen during a recent house robbery in Delmore Park. The TV set will be returned to its rightful owner.

The men are facing charges related to their alleged role in several house robberies, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of suspected stolen property.

“Our policing precinct and others surrounding it have recently seen a spate of house robberies and we believe that the arrest of these men is a major breakthrough,” said Phathela.

Phathela added that all the suspects would be linked to other, similar cases around the Boksburg area. Meanwhile, the Reiger Park SAPS station commander Lieut-Col Elsie Mashinini commended the members involved in the arrests for being extremely diligent in tracking down the alleged thieves.

She also applauded community members for sharing information with the law enforcement agency. -@FanieFLK
