East Point Shavathon proves to be a huge success (video)

For the first time ever, East Point Shopping Centre hosted an annual Shavathon event in aid of Cansa, on February 25.

The Shavathon had shoppers excited as they got their haired shaved or coloured.

East Point centre’s Shavathon team managed to raise R5 509.

Zandre van den Berg, marketing manager of East Point centre, said this will certainly not be the last Shavathon they organise.

Shoppers were treated to a surprise flash mob performed by Center Stage Dance Studio.

Tonia van Vuuren from the studio in Boksburg has been an ambassador for cancer awareness.

She will be bringing her award-winning routine, Cancer, to the Boksburg Stadium at the Relay for Life event, to be held on March 10, in honour of her late father, who was diagnosed with cancer.

Roxanne Packery (middle, sitting) shaved off her hair during the Shavathon held at East Point Sopping Centre.

“I am so grateful to everyone who came out to support us. We are extremely passionate about this cause and will continue to raise awareness of the fight against cancer,” said Sonia Pretorius from Cansa East Rand.

“We encourage the East Rand community to join us at the Relay for Life, where we are expected to host about 1 500 people. Cancer never sleeps, so the relay will start at 6pm on Friday and end at 6am Saturday morning,” Pretorius said.

Wizards Hair Studio East Point donated 52 pony tails to Cansa.

A total of 200 cancer survivors will open the track for all the teams.
