JUST IN: Protest ongoing along Main Reef Road after child falls down mine shaft

The Advertiser understands a protest is ongoing on the corner of Witdeep and Main Reef Roads in Boksburg (Witfield).

A large contingent of police and EMPD members are present.

The protest appears to be over the mine shaft in which a 5-year-old fell into on Saturday.

Residents are angry that the mine shaft has not been cordoned off, despite repeated requests.

The Advertiser is on the scene and a follow-up will be posted throughout the day.
