Beware of reporting false cases

Boksburg North SAPS has lately encountered a tendency to open false cases.

The following arrests were made:

Defeating the ends of justice

* Boksburg North SAPS has arrested a man on a charge of defeating the ends of justice.

The complainant alleged that he was working when a customer, who was interested in buying a vehicle, approached him on February 14, around 2.30pm.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the complainant said he then went to his office and took R56 000 in cash to go do the banking.

He said that as he took the company’s black BMW and reversed, he was approached by two males who pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to get out and lie down next to the vehicle.

“He said the suspects jumped into the vehicle and fled the scene. He said they abandoned the vehicle about 500m away, with the keys in the ignition and the vehicle still idling.”

Det-WO Vusi Tlemo investigated this case of apparent armed robbery and discovered that the complainant had given a false statement.

His investigation led to the arrest of the complainant.

* The complainant alleged that he was driving his truck to a company to deliver goods, on February 20, at about 10am.

He said he stopped at the company in Rudo Nel Street, Jet Park and upon leaving the company with his truck, he was apparently stopped by metro officers in full uniform.

“He said they requested him to get out of the truck and as he did so, they pointed a firearm at him,” said Coetzer.

“Another suspect, he added, drove up to them and put the complainant in the boot of their vehicle. He claimed the suspects dropped him in Hillbrow.”

Hillbrow SAPS brought the complainant to Boksburg North SAPS and after he opened a case of hijacking, the investigation commenced.

“It was established that the complainant had given a false statement – he was not hijacked.”

He was arrested on a case of defeating the ends of justice.

“People must take note of this tendency to open false cases. Complainants open false cases for the purpose of insurance claims, to steal a company’s cash or goods,” said Coetzer

“You will face the consequences when you are caught out.”
