Tavern robbed of cash, owner’s uncle held hostage

A tavern, on the corner of Main Reef Road and Dunswart Avenue, has been robbed last night (February 21), around 6.30pm.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, four men entered the tavern and one of them pointed a firearm at the owner and staff.

“They asked where the money was and forced open the cash register,” said Coetzer.

The suspects stole an undisclosed amount of cash and two bottles of whisky.

“They pointed the firearm at the uncle of the owner and pushed him into his vehicle after smashing the window,” explained Coetzer.

The vehicle was a silver Hyundai i20.

The suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, with the victim inside.

The victim was later found in Actonville, Benoni.

His vehicle was also recovered there.

He had sustained no injuries.

A case of business robbery is under investigation.
