Truck hijackers arrested, loot recovered

Two security guards in a vehicle escorting a truck full of cellphones were injured during a truck hijacking on the Griffiths Road offramp today (February 8), around 11am.

Quick work by law enforcement led to the recovery of the stolen loot and the arrests of the suspects.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the suspects followed the truck on the N12 and R21 highway.

“They fired shots at the vehicle escorting the truck, wounding the two security guards,” said Coetzer.

“Two suspects drove off with the truck. They took the truck driver with them.”

A tracking company and the EMPD K9 Unit arrived on scene and gave chase. They managed to stop the truck in Solomon Street, Witfield.

“However, the truck had only half load of cellphones left,” explained Coetzer.

“They arrested two suspects and found the truck driver. ”

Boksburg North SAPS members and the EMPD persuaded the suspects’s truck and managed to apprehend another suspect with a jamming device, at Lower Boksburg Road.

“The truck was carrying the other half load of cellphones,” said Coetzer.

The three suspects have been detained at Boksburg North SAPS.
