Dawn Park house fire leaves one dead

A 38-year-old man has died after suffocating from inhalation of smoke following a fire that broke out in the early hours of this morning, January 30, at Carolina Street, Dawn Park.

According to Emergency Services spokesperson, William Ntladi, the fire started around 4am.

“The house had two occupants when the fire started, a 38-year-old man and an elderly woman who’s in her 80’s,” Ntladi said.

The relationship between the deceased man and the elderly woman is unknown.

When Emergency Services arrived at the house, two bedrooms where already on fire.

“What we know at this stage is that the fire started at the elderly woman’s bedroom and it spread across to the other rooms in the house.

“The woman managed to crawl from the bedroom to the dining room. Neighbors broke the door to gain entry to the house and rescued the woman,” Ntladi said.
