Wanted fraudster linked to Boksburg SAPS cases nabbed

A one-legged man, who walks with crutches, has been arrested on an assault case in Benoni, on January 26.

He was allegedly linked with Boksburg North SAPS cases and is wanted in Johannesburg Central SAPS, Gingindlovu SAPS, Empangeni SAPS and Springs SAPS.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, fraud cases were registered against the person in question during October 2016 and January this year.

“The suspect advertised vehicles for sale online. The complainants made contact with him, whereafter he took them to a car dealership to show them vehicles,” said Coetzer.

“He told the complainants that he does not take cash and requested them to follow him to the bank.”

He apparently made use of either the banks at the East Rand Mall or the bank at K90 shopping centre.

“When they arrived at the bank, he told the complainants that the bank was too busy and that he would take the cash,” Coetzer continued.

“They had to follow him to Alexandra Licence Department to do the paperwork for the vehicle. On their arrival, he took their identity documents and the cash and disappeared.”

He appeared in Boksburg Magistrate Court today, January 27.
