In the latest crime spree, Kudakwaishe Tseriwa, who hails from Zimbabwe, died after he was shot multiple times in the informal settlement on January 14.
The motive for the killing remains unclear at this stage, but investigation continues.
The second man, Legwere Ramaoro of Lesotho, died after he was shot multiple times at the Angelo Hotel on January 15. The motive for the murder remains a mystery.
No arrests have been made in connection with the killings so far.
The latest killings add to the scores of people, mostly men, who have been murdered in Angelo in recent months.
Residents of the area say they have endured years of torment at the hands of armed criminals who rule the streets of the area.
At least two people are violently killed in the informal settlement almost every week.
The recent rise in fatal attacks is blamed on the influx of undocumented immigrants, along with illegal mining, corrupt community leaders, overpopulation and inadequate policing of the area.
Residents feel that the authorities have failed to address the problem, and some have threatened to take matters into their own hands.
The Boksburg police, however, warned that taking the law into one’s own hands is not a solution.
Police have in the past carried out unannounced crime operations aimed at rooting out crime in the area, but their efforts didn’t yield the expected results.
Criminals continue to run amok in the tiny streets of the informal settlement, causing innocent residents to perpetually tremble with fear of being killed or robbed.
One community leader said the perpetual robbery, break-ins, gang rapes and killings visited on community members demand sober reflection by the area’s political and law enforcement leadership.
“We have approached authorities, including the SAPS management, EMPD and MMC for community safety, but no one seems to care about us,” said the community leader, who is actively involved in many issues that affect the community and works very closely with local political leaders.
