SAPS calls for vigilance in light of truck hijackings, housebreakings

All drivers of trucks and delivery vehicles must take note of the following, as there has been a spate of truck hijackings.

These incidents have occurred regularly in Jet Park, around Griffiths, Jansen and Pretoria roads.

“It has been reported that as soon as the vehicle stops at a stop street or traffic light, the suspects point a firearm at the driver and take the vehicle,” said Capt Juanita Coetzer from the Boksburg North SAPS.

She said that the truck drivers also stopped as soon as they spotted a person in uniform.

“These suspects are not legit SAPS or EMPD members.”

To get assistance from the SAPS and before stopping for anyone, drivers must phone 10111 when they are not sure.

“Some drivers even stop to give people a lift, and then they are hijacked. Drivers must not drive alone. They must be accompanied by a crew.”

Lookouts

The community must be on the lookout for the following vehicles, which have been spotted by witnesses and on video footage at crime scenes.

The suspects were seen driving a silver VW Polo, a silver/grey Mercedes-Benz and a charcoal Toyota Yaris.

These vehicles were spotted in Beyers Park and Jansen Park.

They could be operating in other areas as well.
