Crime brief: Big haul of stolen Eskom cables confiscated

The following cases were reported at Boksburg North SAPS.

* Scrap metal dealer arrested

On a visit to a scrap metal dealer in Gelofte Avenue, Boksburg North, W/O Rudie Bezuidenhout found stolen Eskom overhead conductor cables.

This happened on January 11, around 9am.

“These cables were identified as Eskom cables and property of Eskom,” said Coetzer.

The cables weighed 98kg.

The owner was arrested and detained at Boksburg North SAPS.

According to Coetzer, it is the third time that he has been arrested on similar charges.

He will soon appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court. Investigation is ongoing.

Housebreaker arrested

The complainant and his wife were sleeping when his neighbour phoned to inform him that there were two men on his premises.

This incident occurred on January 5, between midnight and 3am.

“The complainant went outside and saw two suspects running out of his premises,” said communication officer at the Boksburg North SAPS, Capt Juanita Coetzer.

He investigated and found that his loft had been broken into.

A nearby security vehicle gave chase and managed to apprehend one suspect, who was in possession of the complainant’s bicycle.

Boksburg North SAPS were contacted and the suspect was arrested.

The second suspect got away.

*Robbery with firearm

The complainant went to the K90 Standard Bank to exchange money, on January 9, around 1pm. Afterwards, he went to a Spar to do some shopping.

“When he left the Spar, he heard his vehicle’s alarm and noticed an unknown male standing by his vehicle,” said Coetzer.

“The male pointed a firearm at him and asked where his cash was, to which the complainant replied it was in the vehicle.”

According to Coetzer, the suspect broke the window, grabbed the cash and fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla.

Boksburg North SAPS were contacted and searched for the vehicle.

“The suspect was driving recklessly and was spotted.”

The suspect was stopped and arrested. The vehicle was confiscated.

On January 10, the Investigation Officer Sgt William Makgota followed up on information and arrested a second suspect.
